SANDDORN BALANCE
Moments of fragile bliss that change your perception of reality, revealing the delicate nature of balance and the evanescence of life.
In 1997, visitors held their breath during a scene in Rigolo’s SANDDORN show, in which the protagonist built a giant, precariously quivering structure out of thirteen palm ribs. This was the birth of BALANCE – one of the most stunning acts the world has ever seen. BALANCE has enchanted countless audiences ever since, irrespective of culture, age or education. The performance can been seen in a variety of shows and circuses, in theatres, museums and opera houses.
Maedir Rigolo, the BALANCE creator and Rigolo founder who is often characterised as a modern-times shaman, performs it in sold out shows on Broadway. Theatre directors like André Heller adore the act and invite Rigolo to participate in their shows. With its own rhythm, BALANCE evokes awe and suspension, spreads an aura of silence and produces that moment of fragile bliss we all seek. BALANCE trailers with the Rigolo artists are viewed on Youtube in the millions, get innumerable followers and great comments. In China, the act is among the ten most popular videos.
For fifteen years, Maedir struggled to match demand for the act as the world’s sole BALANCE artist. Thereafter, he decided to share his experience and transfer his knowledge to a small circle of selected artists. They now carry on the tradition, each in her or his own individual style and with personal modifications.
Thus, we have a celebrated BALANCE at Cirque du Soleil’s AMALUNA, performed by Maedir’s eldest daughter Lara (one of Nestruck’s top ten acts in 2012), recently replaced by the sublime Asian dancer LiLi. Memet Bilgin Rigolo adds his own energetic touch to the act in Australia. Miyoko Shida Rigolo, the Japanese dancer and choreographer, reinterprets it with Zen-like touch. Naima Rhyn Rigolo entrances audiences by enriching the performance with her own voice. Roman Mueller Rigolo follows in the footsteps of the great master, as does Andreis Jacobs Rigolo. And finally, the delicate Marula, youngest daughter and apprentice of Maedir, has her stage debut with BALANCE to sold-out shows.
… probably the most beautiful act in Europe … (FAZ)
