Rigolo PALAIS, constructed out of willows

Today, more than 10 years later, it has become a tree with a cave,
but still a gate to the pond…
CONSTRUCTION ART
In 1988, Rigolo was introduced to the German architecture group Sanfte Strukturen (“Soft Structures”) at the Markt der Möglichkeiten (“Market of Possibilites”) in Langenthal. A year later, the Rigolo PALAIS was constructed under foreman Marcel Kalberer; a tent with a support structure made of local willows. It offered space for 200 visitors in two opposing stands. Rigolo was the first theatre ensemble in Switzerland, possibly in all of Europe, to construct its own unique tent to fit a production. The PALAIS shaped the MONDAUFGANG (“Moonrise”) and was later on effectively used for the stage versions of GAISTER DER ERDE (“Ghosts of the Earth”) and SANDDORN (“Sallow Thorn”). It has since become a trademark.
Between 1990 and 2004, new suspended and standing buildings were constructed out of natural materials such as willow and bamboo. Rigolo would have liked to fulfil its dream of having its own park, Arkadien, containing all these constructions and objects of art, but as of yet, no fitting site has been found. Thus the PALAIS remains in storage, waiting for its terrain.
