ART OBJECTS IN PERFORMANCES
Maedir Rigolo und Lena Roth first included their own sculptures and artworks in the stage productions ERINNERUNGEN IN EISEN (“Memories in Iron”) in 1984, and BRECHT in 1985; they could have held their own in the art world. Little by little, Rigolo distanced itself from rackety circus performances and moved onto theatre. They were inspired by artists such as Jean Tinguely and Alexander Calder. The unique feature of Rigolo’s new creations was the active role that these objects played in the performances; hardly any of them remained stationary. Be it through the hand of the artist or as a result of the elements, they would always be in motion.
The works of sculptors such as Schang Hutter, Stefan Kreier, Meris, Roly Guggenbühler and Thomas Freydl were included in many of Rigolo projects. The artist Janusz Gilewicz came all the way from America in order to create “Face in the Flock of Birds” for the performance WINGS IN MY HEART. This installation was first seen in September 2014 at the Rigolo Theatre.
